The loss of a loved one can be one of the darkest seasons of our lives. The Psalmist knew this pain well when he penned Psalm 23:44: Even though I walk through the darkest valley, I fear no evil; for you are with me; your rod and your staff—they comfort me. Please know that your church family and staff are here to walk with you through this journey and beyond. We know that God is present in both our living and our dying; therefore, we are comforted in difficult times.
On his deathbed, John Wesley, the founder of the Methodist movement, spoke and repeated these final words, “The best of all is, God is with us.” In ministry with those who are dying, United Methodists continue to share that good news. In our life and in our death, the best of all is, God is with us.
