Senior Adult Ministry

easter fest

Welcome to Encore!

Encore is Trietsch's Senior Adult Ministry for people in their sixties and beyond. This is a new ministry founded by Rev. Don Kirsch, Senior Adult Ministry Coordinator, in which he hopes to help folks who are 65+ spiritually, relationally, and socially connect. Why Encore? Well, a few years ago when Pastor Don retired (again), he picked up a book entitled Encore: Finding Work That Matters in the Second Half of Life to find some inspiration for what could be next in life. He learned much from this book and was inspired by the word "encore."

An encore is a time to commend and reflect on all of the hard work, beautiful moments, and joy that you have experienced. But the encore is not an afterthought! After all, most musicians and artists save their best work for the encore. Encore is not a stereotypical ministry for senior citizens; it's a time for senior adults to continue celebrating, growing, and serving in God's love. After all, God's love for you never retires!

More information is coming soon about Encore. If you have questions or suggestions, please contact Rev. Don Kirsch at donk@tmumc.org. In the meantime, scroll down to learn more about Pastor Don!

How do I connect spiritually across generations?

Do you ever feel like there is a disconnect between generations? There is a push and pull between embracing change and respecting tradition. Rev. Don Kirsch and Alyssa Robinson have a conversation about differences between generations in the church and ways to better connect while keeping Christ at the center of our relationships. This is a great episode to get to know Pastor Don better and hear his hopes for ENCORE! Ministry.

Meet Rev. Don Kirsch

Greetings Fellow Friends of Jesus!

I am Rev. Don Kirsch, Trietsch’s new Senior Adult Ministry Coordinator. I look forward to meeting you personally but, for now I would like to share with you a little about myself and my vision for this new ministry.

My wife Anita and I married right after high school graduation in 1967 when I was just beginning a career in the US Air Force. After 26 years in Air Force blue, I sensed a call to pastoral ministry, and we left the gulf coast of Florida for the hills of Kentucky where I graduated from Asbury Theological Seminary. We returned to northwest Florida after graduation where we served congregations in Santa Rosa Beach and the Panama City area.

We moved to Texas in 2010 where I continued to serve as a pastoral coach and consultant to churches, and as a Transitional Intentional Interim Ministry Specialist to churches in times of stressful change.

Our son and his family live in Tampa, Florida and our daughter and her family are here in Lantana, Texas.  We have four grandchildren ranging in age from 11 to 21. Anita and I enjoy travel, family time, and long walks together. She’s a quilter, Bible study leader, exceptional cook, and an amazing "Grammy." I enjoy golf, bowling, and playing guitar a little for therapy.

I’m grateful for the opportunity to develop, with your help, a ministry specifically designed to meet the unique needs and desires of men and women 65 and over in our church and the larger community.

As a 75-year-old myself, I am personally aware of the challenges and opportunities that come with aging. Challenges at the point of our health and mobility, changes in relationships and social involvement, and emerging new perspectives on spirituality, just to name a few.  At the same time, our advancing years hold extraordinary opportunities never considered in our earlier years.  For example, our potential influence on younger generations, especially our children and grandchildren, cannot be underestimated but it can be developed more fully.

The Spirit of God is moving here at Trietsch to bring about spiritual revival and I firmly believe that the establishment of this new ministry is further evidence of the work of the Holy Spirit among us!  I am excited as I look ahead to our growing together, serving together, learning together, and having fun together as we lead people into a growing relationship with Jesus Christ.

[The righteous] will still bear fruit in old age, they will stay fresh and green . . .Psalm 92:14
