Special Needs
(Butterfly Ministry)
Staff Leader: Catherine Zane
Our mission is to enable the fullest possible participation in the life of the church to special needs kids and their families.
We do this by providing a Special Buddy program; a supportive, one on one friend to assist in Sunday School, VBS, and other programs as needed. We provide assistance to the teachers while including the children. We offer seminars and guest speaker discussing various aspects of special needs children. We facilitate a parent support group that meets monthly.
SERVE THE SPECIAL NEEDS MINISTRY
The Butterfly (Special Needs) Ministry is soaring to new heights and serving more kids than ever! In order to continue providing quality ministry, we need a few good men and women to consistently work with our Butterfly Kids. There are openings at both 9:30 and 11 hours. Come and see the impact that one hour of service a week can have on a child’s life. Contact Catherine Zane, Butterfly Ministry Coordinator at catherinez@tmumc.org, or 972-951-6300.
Support Group
Parents of children with special needs are invited to participate in a support group. Contact Catherine Zane at 972-874-0161 or catherinez@tmumc.org to register and get complete class dates and information. Childcare is provided with prior reservations by calling 972-539-8547, ext. 299.
Butterfly in the Wind
A child is a butterfly in the wind. Some can fly higher than others: but each one flies the best that it can. Why compare one against the other? Each one is different. Each one is special. Each one is beautiful.

If people with disabilities are feared, pitied or perceived as lacking in faith, or “afflicted” as the result of sin, building a caring community of equals is nearly impossible. Likewise, if people with disabilities view themselves as somehow outside the realm of God’s steadfast love, their ability to enter into community with others will be limited. Only when all are accepted as equally valued and cherished in the eyes of a loving God, is it possible to enter a caring give-and-take community.—Barrier to Bridges.
