Amigos Days

Staff Leader: Diane Presley

April 1 & 2 and April 8 & 9

WANT TO HELP REPAIR A HOUSE?
Our church will be participating in the Amigos Days program in which we will repair and paint two houses in the southern part of Dallas.

Amigos Days is a popular hands-on ministry of the North Texas Annual Conference of the United Methodist Church and People Helping People (a City of Dallas Housing Revitalization Program) in which our church participates each year. Amigos Days connects churches throughout the metroplex to work in service to elderly or disabled homeowners that are unable to repair and paint and maintain their own home exteriors. On two weekends each spring, volunteers make minor repairs, as well as scrape and paint the outside of these homes. We can use help from men and women. This years dates are April 1 & 2 and April 8 & 9.

The joyful noise Amigos volunteers make to the Lord is filled with the sounds of power tools, paint scrapers, hammering and happy banter among the workers. In its first 13 years, Amigos Days completed over 314 home projects in Dallas, while 14 urban United Methodist churches have participated as host locations, providing support and offering hospitality to workers. Amigos Days projects have also included extensive repairs and improvements to the host churches, adding to the success of the program.

Amigos Days is funded entirely by donations from partner churches and individuals. The People Helping People Department of the City of Dallas serves as an invaluable partner by locating eligible homes, qualifying owners and supplying the majority of the building materials and paint needed to transform the structures.

The tasks do not require highly skilled labor, just a willingness to take a day or two out of your busy schedule to help a family in need.

Join in a hands-on ministry! Help make a difference in our community!

Ways you can help:

  • Join the Construction Team - will repair and paint a house in the southern part of Dallas.
  • Join the Hospitality Team - help provide deli-type lunches on each of these four days.
  • Support through your prayers

Teens under 16 must work with a parent, 16 - 18 need only a signed permission form. We also need families or groups (bible study, etc.) to help with snack and lunch prep.

Register to participate in this project by coming to the table in the Connection Center on Sundays in March or contact Diane Presley at dianep@tmumc.org.
