Thank you Suzanne Sutton for 15 wonderful years of VBS leadership. VBS is what it is today at Trietsch thanks to your tireless efforts and unbelievable leadership.

2010 Vacation Bible School
A Huge Success!

Vacation Bible School was an amazing week of learning and fun we spent in Egypt, with 1,006 kids, 630 volunteers (275 youth and 355 adults) and a leadership team of 50, the 2010 VBS was a success!

The kids and congregation collected 1290 pair of teen jeans for CCA’s Back to School program. And the cow and the goat teamed up to raise a record $11,456 to defeat the dreaded mosquito with the United Methodist Church’s campaign, Imagine No Malaria, to help eradicate Malaria in Africa. The goat did pull in the most, which in turn caused Senior Pastor John Allen to have to kiss Rosie the camel on Friday night. (See photo above).

At the same time, 83 upcoming sixth graders (and 16 adults) served the community through VBS Mission Camp. Each day started with a devotion based on the story of Joseph before heading out. They sorted food at the CCA food pantry, including separating rotting nectarines from good ones. The kids learned the importance of not just giving their hand-offs, as the nectarines were heading to another great Trietsch mission, Kids Eat Free.

The kids also visited many retirement facilities and played lots of games and Wii. The kids were so amazing visiting with these people and seemed to be touched the most by this mission. They also drove around with coolers of iced water bottles to hand out to people that looked thirsty... sharing the “living water!” The kids learned alot by the different responses they got, especially the importance of a kind word! Others picked up trash, did yard work for a Trietsch shut-in. And for their last mission, they delivered goodie boxes to school staffs working over the summer. Friends made, people served, God honored!

Planning is already underway for the 2011 VBS to be held June 27 - July 1. Mark your calendars now!

2009 Vacation Bible School

Wow! God is great! With 1,175 children attending the Crocodile Dock VBS and another 83 in the 6th Grade Mission Camp, a total of 1,258 children’s lives were changed during VBS week, June 22-26. 197 youth and 350 adult volunteered to make it all possible.
Of those volunteers, 63 were on the VBS Leadership Team, and there were 10 directors led by Suzanne Sutton. Thanks to all of their hard work and months of planning, the week was a success!
In addition, $10,000 was raised for Heifer International, and 1,660 pairs of jeans were donated for CCA’s Back to School Drive. The entire week demonstrated very clearly the Power of God!
In addition to the kids of Crocodile Dock, 83 upcoming sixth graders and 17 adult volunteers served our community through VBS Mission Camp. Eight groups per day rotated to the different community worksites.
On Friday, they celebrated a week of hard work with a pool party. It was an awesome week of making a difference in the community and showing the 6th graders how they can make a difference. Our groups received many thanks and smiles.
Projects included:

  • 52 bags of trash picked up through a Keep Lewisville Beautiful environmental clean up
  • 15 cases of bottled water, each labeled with Trietsch and the “living water” verse, were given to people working outside.
  • 8 visits to the CCA food pantry and resale shop to assist with sorting, stocking, and cleaning.
  • 8 visits to two local nursing homes and a retirement center, where the youth played Bingo, hosted ice cream socials, sang songs, and visited with residents.
  • 3 visits to New Hope Learning Center, a day care at FUMC Lewisville, where youth played games, led arts and crafts projects, and read to the preschoolers.

CCA was very grateful for our help as they are desperate for volunteers because more people are using their services, but they don’t have enough volunteers to keep up with the demand.
We sent out an email to the mission camp families about CCA’s need. One mom replied that her son’s Boy Scout troop is going to adopt CCA as their ongoing service project.
Just proof that what we do at mission camp extends beyond the week by raising awareness of the many needs in the community and what the youth can do about it.

2008 VBS A HUGE SUCCESS!

Over 1,100 kids and more than 500 volunteers had a blast at the VBS Power Lab and 6th grade Mission Camp from June 23-27. VBS is one of the most popular ministries of Trietsch and the kids look forward to it each year.
One of the mission focuses of VBS is to collect new jeans for the CCA Back to School store. Our goal was to collect 1,200 pairs of jeans for teens and when we reached our goal, our own Kris Melvin would get SLIMED! We more than met our goal, but surpassed it by collecting around 1,400 pairs of jeans! Kris Melvin looks good in green, don't you think? (pictured at right)

The annual goat vs. cow battle raged on the whole week. The cow won by a wide margin this year, but Heifer International is the real winner, with the kids raising almost $8,000 during VBS to buy working animals for families in Mozambique.

The gift of a dairy goat represents a lasting, meaningful way for you to help a little boy or girl on the other side of the world. A dairy goat can supply a family with up to several quarts of nutritious milk a day - a ton of milk a year. Extra milk can be sold or used to make cheese, butter or yogurt. Families learn to use goat manure to fertilize gardens. And because goats often have two or three kids a year, Heifer partners can lift themselves out of poverty by starting small dairies that earn money for food, health care and education.

A good dairy cow can produce four gallons of milk a day - enough for a family to drink and share with neighbors. Milk protein transforms sick, malnourished children into healthy boys and girls. The sale of surplus milk earns money for school fees, medicine, clothing and home improvements. And because a healthy cow can produce a calf every year, every gift will be passed on and eventually help an entire community move from poverty to self reliance. Now that's a gift worth giving!

The VBS Leadership Team, headed by Suzanne Sutton, did a wonderful job making this event happen! Thank you all for your hard work and dedication. Countless lives were changed this year at VBS!
