Holy Week Activities

Palm Sunday, March 28 at 8, 9:30 and 11 a.m.
The Sunday immediately preceding Easter, Palm Sunday commemorates the entry of Jesus into Jerusalem and begins the series of observances focusing on the events of Holy Week. Our 9:30 and 11 a.m. services will begin with our children helping us remember Jesus’ triumphant return to Jerusalem with a traditional palm processional. The Children's Choir will be featured.

Maundy Thursday Pot Luck Dinner, April 1, 6 p.m.
Before the Maundy Thursday worship service we will celebrate The Last Supper with an all-church pot luck dinner at 6 p.m. Bring a dish to share (don't forget the serving utensils) and we'll supply the paper goods and drinks. We will then enjoy the Maundy Thursday worship at 7 p.m.

Maundy Thursday, April 1, 7 p.m.
Maundy Thursday, also called Holy Thursday, commemorates Jesus’ Last Supper. The word Maundy comes from the Latin mandatum, which means “commandment.” At the Last Supper, Jesus gave the disciples a new commandment to love one another as He had loved them (John 13:34). Prior to breaking bread with the disciples, Jesus washed their feet. helps us remember Christ’s last Passover meal. Participate in kneeling Communion. Nursery and childcare available.

Good Friday Day of Prayer, April 2, 9 a.m. - 7 p.m.
Last year we had a Day of Prayer that was overwhelmingly successful. We hope you will join our church family on Good Friday, April 10 from 9 a.m. - 7 p.m. for a Day of Prayer. The sanctuary will be open for prayer and nailing a nail to the cross throughout the day and in the Ministry Center you can experience a Prayer Labyrinth. If you have never prayed while walking on a labyrinth, put it on your calendar of “must do’s” for this Easter season. Please participate by ensuring that someone from your family, if not all of you, stop by at some point today.

Good Friday, April 2, 7 p.m.
During this service of worship, we remember the betrayal, suffering and death of Jesus. It was for us that He lived and died. The celebration of Easter Sunday cannot happen without the sacrifice of Good Friday first. The Good Friday worship service features the Chancel Choir and Orchestra and ends with an adaptation from a 4th century observance, Tenebrae, a “Service of Darkness.” As Jesus’ last words on the cross are recounted, attention is centered on candles in the altar area. As each of the last “words” is offered by readers, a candle is extinguished, and darkness deepens around us as we recall a darkness of the soul that lasted until Easter morning. Nursery and childcare is available.

Easter Egg Hunt, April 3, 10 a.m.
Join us for the annual Easter Egg Hunt on April 3 at 10 a.m. for children up to 5th grade. Enjoy the Easter story, egg hunt, crafts and best of all a choo choo train. The cost of the train will be $1 per ride. All children participating should drop off 2 dozen filled eggs (one for your child, one for visitors) at the church by March 28. Collection boxes will be located at the FV Information Desk and the church office. Contact Trish Callis at trishc@tmumc.org.
