What is Stewardship

Stewardship encompasses our time, talents and spiritual and financial gifts. Through Christ we are called to the mission and ministry of our church with the five-fold promise – to support the church with our prayers, our presence, our gifts, our service and our witness.

On Commitment Sunday, November 13, we look to God as we commit these promises to the work of the church. Please complete the Stewardship Promise that is included in this brochure. Prayerfully consider your commitment to celebrate the gifts God has given us and truly come together to make a difference for others and ourselves.

Together, we can change lives and make a positive impact on our neighborhood and the entire world.

Prayers

The Bible emphasizes the importance of communicating with God through prayer. Pray without ceasing (1 Thessalonians 5:16-18) – through spoken word, written word, thoughts, meditation and song. Prayer is the way to a real and personal relationship with God. Speaking with God should come as naturally as speaking with each other. In John Wesley’s words, “Prayer is truly the most useful of all pastimes.”

Presence

Presence is more than just coming to church on Sunday. It is being present in mind, body and spirit. To be connected to God and fellow Christians, we must engage our mind and allow God to lead our spirit. Being present at worship and at ministries that occur in and beyond the church keeps us fully incorporated into the body of Christ and better equipped to help others.

Gifts

Consistent, planned and proportionate giving is an expression of our faith and demonstrates our commitment to God and the church. By giving financially, we not only support our church, but we support the many ministries we provide the community. All we have comes from God.

Service

A vital church is a church that serves. We reflect the love that God has shown us by serving others, both in the church, in our community and around the world. We know that service is an important part of the Christian life. We are the hands and feet of Christ.

Witness

The best way to be a witness for Christ is to lead a Christ-like life. We may hesitate to talk to others about God because we don’t think we know enough about the Bible. The good news is that God gives us all the gifts to fulfill this command. Sharing how God is working in our life may be the opening someone needs to learn more about how God can provide peace in their lives as well.

“Alone we can do so little; together we can do so much.”
- Helen Keller

We Make A Difference

On Commitment Sunday, November 13, during worship, our congregation will be asked to commit themselves to the mission and ministry of our church. When we are participating in COME, GROW & SERVE Ministries, we naturally will support the church in the five-fold promise — with our prayers, presence, gifts, service and our witness. Below is a thumbnail of this year’s Commitment Card that will be mailed to you.

Our members are asked to worship, serve, grow spiritually, to share Christ in their daily lives and give sacrificially. We do not apologize for the demands of Christ in these areas, as we believe these are the signatures of a disciple of Christ.

For Trietsch, 2012 will be an important year, as our capacity for ministry is growing with the Family Life Center. We are seeing new children and youth in our ministries every day. With new opportunities, comes the new challenge of the need for financial support and servant participation. Specifically, the financial challenge will be great. All of us that are able will need to step up our giving to meet the needs of our growing ministries. The time is now for us to step up to the challenge.

You may be asking, “What does the Bible say about the subject of money.” Actually, the Bible speaks more to the subject of money and giving than any other subject. God does not take this lightly, and neither should we.

As such, the Bible gives specific guidelines on giving. Provisions for the offering of the tithe (giving 10 percent of one’s income), are first found in Deuteronomy. It is an offering that acknowledges God’s ownership of creation.

In every phase of the five-fold promise we must excel to meet this challenge. Every prayer, every act of service, every song of praise in worship, and every dollar will be important to our task as the people of God.

As part of our Stewardship Campaign, we have been highlighting our COME, GROW & SERVE Ministries over nine weeks to help show what we accomplish when we come together to make a difference in the lives of others. We have learned from many of the testimonies shared in worship and in the COME, GROW & SERVE brochures that our own lives can be touched and changed when we sacrifice for others.

During the three weeks of our COME Ministries, we gave out Prayer Tents, Invitation Cards and Door Hangers to invite friends, family and neighbors to worship and other events and share our excitement with others.

During the three weeks of our GROW Ministries, we started a 90-day reading plan with a New Testament provided for everyone. We learned more about all our GROW opportunities and ways to enrich our spiritual journey.

We are just finishing up our SERVE Ministry Sundays. We shared service opportunities and highlighted three hands-on missions. We collected thousands of grocery bags and continue to make mats for the homeless (see more on page 3). We collected new packages of Underwear on “Undie Sunday” to give to the Salvation Army and there is one more SERVE Sunday on November 6, the Holiday Food Sunday. During the holiday season, CCA provides 1,600 holiday food baskets at Thanksgiving and Christmas. These baskets provide all of the fixings for the traditional holiday meal. We have committed to providing the Sugar, 2 lbs., Flour, 2 lbs. and cans of evaporated milk. Everyone bring these items on November 6 (and throughout the season).
