Sherrill Johnston discovered benefits of serving that she didn't know existed:
A few years back I was invited to be the keynote speaker for the State
of Alabama’s Hospital Auxiliary Volunteer annual conference. The suggested topic for the conference was "The Healing Power of Volunteering."
the time my work was heavily involved in recruiting and training over 700
persons annually for short-term missions to various sites in South America - so
it seemed natural that I would be comfortable with and capable of speaking to this
group of avid servants about serving.
But despite ALL of the recruiting I had done and was doing I had never,
ever considered the HEALING POWER of serving! I began to do my research and here is what I
discovered in the process:
Those who serve have:
- Lower mortality rates
- Greater functional ability
- Lower rates of depression
In addition, when we share our gifts and
- Helps you make new friends & contacts
- Increases your social & relationship skills
- Increases self-confidence
- Combats depression
- Helps you stay physically healthy
- Provides career experience
- Teaches you valuable job skills
When it comes to serving, PASSION &
POSITIVITY are the only requirements!
- Solve problems
- Strengthen communities
- Improve lives
- Connect to others
- Transform our own lives
Sounds like we should all consider serving in some form or
fashion, doesn’t it? Why would we not serve when the benefits are so great?
At Trietsch we are organizing a new mission team for the purpose of "Calendaring – Communicating – Connecting – and Celebrating" the numerous mission events & opportunities offered through the
church. It is the mission team’s goal to
effectively communicate mission opportunities in hopes of connecting all
persons to serve for the mission opportunities offered by the church or the greater community.
We hope for everyone to be "ALL IN" by finding a place to serve. Why? Because of all the HEALING benefits I listed above but, better yet,
because Jesus stated the greatest healing benefit when He said:
we try to save our life we will lose it – but if we lose our lives in His
service we will find life." (Matthew 16:25)

are priceless! To get connected and serve, email Clay Horton at email@example.com.
