Holy Week Activities

Palm Sunday

March 16 at 8, 9:30 and 11 a.m.
The Sunday immediately preceding Easter, Palm Sunday commemorates the entry of Jesus into Jerusalem and begins the series of observances focusing on the events of Holy Week. Our 9:30 and 11 a.m. services will begin with our children helping us remember Jesus’ triumphant return to Jerusalem with a traditional palm processional. The India Children’s Choir will perform in all three services.

Maundy Thursday

March 20 at 7 p.m.
Maundy Thursday, also called Holy Thursday, commemorates Jesus’ Last Supper. The word Maundy comes from the Latin mandatum, which means “commandment.” At the Last Supper, Jesus gave the disciples a new commandment to love one another as He had loved them (John 13:34). Prior to breaking bread with the disciples, Jesus washed their feet. This experiential worship service offers the opportunity to relive and remember Christ’s last Passover meal. Participate in Holy Communion, light a candle in prayer, express yourself through journaling, and have your feet washed by our pastors as an act of servanthood. You can either choose to handwrite your thoughts at the written Journal table, or enter them electronically at the laptop table, which is set up with a Maundy Thursday Blog. The ‘Journal’ will be placed in the Prayer Chapel after the service or you can check out the Blog anytime by going to www.tmumc.org or http://trietschblog.blogspot.com/.

Nursery and childcare available.

Good Friday

March 21 at 7 p.m.
During this service of worship, we remember the betrayal, suffering and death of Jesus. It was for us that He lived and died. The celebration of Easter Sunday cannot happen without the sacrifice of Good Friday first. The Good Friday worship service features the Chancel Choir and Orchestra and ends with an adaptation from a 4th century observance, Tenebrae, a “Service of Darkness.” As Jesus’ last words on the cross are recounted, attention is centered on candles in the altar area. As each of the last “words” is offered by readers, a candle is extinguished, and darkness deepens around us as we recall a darkness of the soul that lasted until Easter morning. Nursery and childcare is available.

Easter Services
5 p.m. on Saturday, March 22
8, 9:30 & 11 a.m. on March 23

We are offering an Easter service on Saturday evening, March 22 at 5 p.m. in the Sanctuary. It is identical to the Easter morning services. We encourage you to attend Saturday evening to help make space for all the visitors on Easter morning. We celebrate Easter morning with three identical services in the Sanctuary. Each service will include the choir, orchestra and the Reign Band. Or you may choose to worship in the relaxed, family-friendly atmosphere of the Ministry Center. This laid-back setup includes tables and chairs and snacks to occupy the little ones. The service will be video simulcast from the Sanctuary.
